CNH District Supports LHM in India

Second only to China in number, India is home to nearly a quarter of the world’s population. Covering 3.3 million square miles, India is roughly one-third the size of the United States. Religion in India is very diverse and practiced freely in public. Hinduism is the predominant religion in India, practiced by 80 percent of the populace. Muslims comprise about 10 percent, Christians about 3 percent, with Sikhs and others the remainder. At least 90 percent of the Christian population emerges from the lower castes, very few are from the hard to reach upper castes. India has now surpassed China as the nation with the fastest growing Christian population.  Since 1951, Lutheran Hour Ministries has taken on the challenge of spreading the Good News to thousands of Indian people who have never had the opportunity to learn about Jesus Christ, and CNH District Lutheran Hour Ministries has adopted the office in India for special support.

In 2007, our district undertook a fund raising effort to provide "Bibles for India".  Our goal was to raise funds for the printing of 5000 Bibles in the local languages so the Christian Media Centre, as our office in India is known, could provide free Bibles to those who requested them.  For more background on this project as well as information on the results, click here.

In June of 2008, our district will be sending a "Global Work and Witness" team of 15 people to our office in India to help with some much needed renovation or other projects.  For more on this project, click here.  We are currently recruiting volunteers who want to take part in this trip, as well as raising funds to cover the expenses of this project.

In July of 2008, we will be bringing the director of our office in India and his wife to California to visit as many congregations as possible with first hand information about their ministry efforts.  They will then be attending the International Lutheran Laymen's League Convention in late July.  We are also in need of support for this project in such ways as providing funding, housing, and local transportation.

We are just starting a website to take us through preparation, the trip itself, and afterward when Rev. David and his wife come here to visit our CNH District in July.  To visit the site, click here.

If you wish to financially support either or both of these current projects, you may mail your donation to CNH District Lutheran Laymen's League.  Please click here for a printable donation form to use for submitting your contribution.  In the near future, we may have online donations available.  Your donations are tax deductable and you will receive a receipt for your donation.

Another way to support these projects is buying some of our special gift items that were designed for this project.  Josh Weygandt, one of our participants in the upcoming trip, designed the trip logo which is on these items.  The supplier is donating 15% of sales to our project.

For more information on how you can take part in and support these current projects, please contact Chuck Weygandt at (805)610-4540.
